Student Athlete FAQ

Does my child need sports massage?

Sample DClub and school sports engagement isn’t what it used to be. Many of us are accustomed to participating in your local school districts sports teams, engaging students for three to four months followed by a rest season or a break before moving onto their next sports season. However, today student athletes are experiencing year-round play in one or more sports concurrently. Athletes wishing to participate in high-level high school play and/or move on to collegiate-level play must often time engage in club teams year round to develop the skills necessary to simply to “make the team”. This might seems like something to keep your child busy throughout the year but have you considered what this does to their growing and developing body? Now let’s assume they engage in at least two sports. These athletes may be experiencing multiple practices in a day or seasons where they are competing or preforming minimally on a daily basis, 7-days a week. Daily activity teamed up with the most formidable years of growth and development can take a toll on the body. Though children and young adults heal quicker, wouldn’t they be better off in the long term if they don’t experience injuries like collar-bone breaks, rotator cuff injuries, torn ACL’s and MCL’s and other joint, tendon and ligament injuries, especially as a child? Clinical sports massage therapy can not only help your child’s body recover faster from the intense activities they are experiencing, but it can actually help prevent common injuries by allowing the body to adequately compensate if, or more likely when, their body gets challenged during an event or practice.escription

Does my student qualify?

Sample DescriptionStudent athletes are school-aged children. Our youngest athletes are around 6 years of age and our oldest are 18 to 19 years of age before they will age out of the program. Collegiate level athletes should seek participation in the Adult Athlete Program. Athletes must be engaged in an organized school or club sponsored sports team, excluding collegiate level teams and clubs. They may seek therapy year round even if their sports club or team does not practice year round. Minimally, students must engage in the program for three consecutive months before suspending or terminating the program for seasonal breaks.

When can I schedule my student athlete and do I need to attend with them?

Student athletes may be scheduled anytime during the regular business hours. BodyWorks has developed hours that are intended to accommodate students. We recognize that it may be easier during the summer hours to schedule students when their school obligations are limited. We will work with students and their parents to find times that they are able to receive treatment without interfering with their school and sports responsibilities. We do require a parent or guardian to attend the first session with their student athlete. This is to ensure the parent and therapist is on the same page with treatment of the child. Parents are always welcome to sit in the room during any session for their comfort or the comfort of their student. Once treatment permission has been established, parental attendance is optional upon the agreement of the therapist, student and parent.
